The agreement is essentially in line with the Economic Partnership Agreement concluded in February 2019 between the European Union and Japan.  The United Kingdom-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) (Japanese: |英包括的経済携協त) is a free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and Japan.   The agreement was concluded in principle by both parties in September 2020 and was signed in Tokyo in October 2020, following the UK`s withdrawal from the European Union in January 2020. A promotional document for agricultural foodstuffs and explanatory documents for rules of origin, numerical data and data as well as geographical indices have been added. On 9 June 2020, Toshimitsu Motegi, Foreign Secretary of Japan, and Liz Truss, UK Secretary of State for International Trade, agreed to start negotiations and establish the future economic partnership between Japan and the UNITED Kingdom.  On the 10th The first meeting of the chief negotiators took place on 6 June 2020 after the opening of negotiations on the future economic partnership between Japan and the United Kingdom.  Videoconference sessions followed on June 24, July 8, 15, 22 and 29.      The seventh and final round took place on August 3.  On 11 September 2020, truss and Motegi adopted the principle of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UK and Japan in a video call.
